An original REGINAPHONE mahogany cabinet style 113 circa 1926
The Regina Company, Rahway, New Jersey
The Reginaphone holds a remarkable place in the evolution of automated live music. Edison’s invention of the phonograph pushed aside the manufacture of music boxes, the traditional instrument of the 19th century. Regina’s final masterpiece, into which the company poured all its resources in the final days of music box production, was the apply named REGINAPHONE, an instrument serving as both as a music box and a phonograph.
Reginaphone was a hybrid machine that played both music box discs and phonographs. Regina used a phonograph mechanism manufactured by the American Graphophone Company, which evolved into Columbia Records.
