An original chrome Gray Telephone Pay Station pay telephone, circa 1940's
Features a beige dial and beige handset
The Gray Telephone Company was the first manufacturer of a coin operated pay telephone
The original pay phone was black but was never refurbished by Gray Telephone when it was bought out by the Western Electric Company as noted on the front of the phone
The telephone measures 18" tall by 7" wide by 6" deep weighs 25 pounds
Original condition and operational
The chrome is in excellent condition
The quality of the reception is excellent
A distinct different sound when either a nickel, dime or quarter is deposited
Keys for the telephone body and for the cash box
The keys are critical to open the case to mount to the wall
The cash box door is high security with the heavy door weighs 2.5 pounds and special lock and original key
The lock to the cash box is made of tungsten steel which makes it critical to have the original key because it would be extremely difficult to drill out
